Position Title: High-Speed SerDes System Architect
Location: San Diego, CA or remote-support/work from home
Status: Full-time

Job Description:
Encore Semi is looking for a High-speed SerDes System Architect to join our team in San Diego. In this role, you will:
• Be responsible for architecting multi-protocol bit-level jitter retimer solutions operating at rates greater than 10 Gbps
• Work closely with the implementation team to create block-level specifications, evaluate expected system level performance, and define chip functionality to ensure full compliance with the standard and backwards compatibility
• Create simulation models representative of the target system in MATLAB / C++ / Python
• Drive trade-off analysis to benefit customer experience and optimization of resources (costs, power)
• Write scripts / code for functions / features required for specific simulation of given system
• Translate compliance-test requirements into chip functionality and verification requirements
• Create thorough documentation with design trade-offs, simulation results and expected performance

Minimum Qualifications:
• Master’s / PhD degree in Electrical Engineering or Communications Systems
• 10+ years of experience in high-speed USB/PCIe/SerDes system design
• Extensive knowledge of the USB, Thunderbolt and DisplayPort standards
• Proven experience in architecting and validating chips and systems implementing several generations of USB
• Extensive knowledge of equalization and clock-and-data recovery methods
• Extensive knowledge of MAC layer design: pre-coding, de-scrambling, symbol decoding, RS-FEC decoding
• 10+ years of experience developing code in MATLAB, C, C++, or Python, and experience with industry standard coding and regression practices

Preferred Qualifications:
• Understanding of technology constraints on system trade-offs, namely when working with FinFET nodes
• Good analytical, problem solving, and communication skills
• Familiarity with the PCIe standard
